The biggest and cheapest therapy: DANCE!

September 13, 2013

Welcome to InterPlay’s Virtual Friday breather!

Thanks Pam Falkowski for sending this incredible affirmation of why we dance!

Inspired?

Everytime I skype with someone I use some InterPlay. My favorite is to just dance together.

Even though we’re far apart lets imagine that everyone is dancing with you RIGHT NOW to this music from InterPlayer Shezam Susanne Simone!

Global Dance Ambassador: Matt

July 12, 2012

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh

Shake out one hand.
Shake out the other.
Shake out whatever you are sitting on.

One of the great strengths of those who improvise is our practice of following without hesitation. We learn that following is ecstatic leadership.

Who might you follow with body and heart today?

Matt got people to do his dance on a previous trip. I am very proud of him that he followed up by joining in some dances with friends around the world who know that their dances are a form of deep connective joy.

Raise a hand and dance in connection to those who dance around the world, whether or not we have been “trained.” All dancing changes the world.

The Ministry of Silly Walks for Phil’s Bday

March 16, 2012

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh…..

Need a lift? Try a 5 second silly walk! Seriously! Give your bodyspirit some relief!

How to walk silly…

  • Walk in a crazy path.
  • Walk backwards and if you run into someone say “Thank you!”
  • Walk and emphasize a body part.
  • Walk like a swinger.
  • Walk like a thruster.
  • Walk, stop, and lie down—like a hanger.

Step off the straight and narrow…for just a SECOND!

Same old street, but the place in your head shifts dramatically. Isn’t that a ministry? I’ll sign up for it. Will you?

Please do a silly walk on behalf of Phil Porter, the John Cleese of InterPlay, our cofounder who turns 59 today. Send a clip or photo of you or someone walking silly to him at phil@interplay.org. He considers it to be his birthday ALL MONTH LONG!

Playing with all of life!

From the Twisted Fairy: 4 InterPlayful Medicines: Get up • Sigh • Shake • Twist

March 9, 2012

At the American Institute for Cancer Research annual conference, Canadian researchers reported that sedentary behavior was associated with about 100,000 cases of breast and colon cancer annually. Theory: Being sedentary promotes inflammation, a cancer risk factor. If you sit a lot, be sure to get up and move around for a minute or two every hour. (Bottom Line Health Newsletter)

Chronically in the dumps? Dump the slump! Find any feel good physical practice like InterPlay: easier than yoga, no right or left feet, applies affirmation and fun, support and health!

The Twisted Fairy Says!

Get Up

Stand up or raise up.
Drop down and relax. That’s all. Your spine and body love it!

The Twisted Fairy says,

“Take a deep breath, let it out with a sigh!”

No really! Exhale audibly. When we sigh out loud we

  • vibrate and massage organs
  • take your emotional temperature
  • let off steam or exform as we say in InterPlay

The Twisted Fairy says, “Shake!”

Shake out a leg.
Shake out the other leg.
Shake out whatever you’re sittin’ on!
Stand up and shake it all out!

You don’t have to go to Africa, Bali or China to use the wisdom of the body! Right here, right now “let go of the stresses of the day and revive like those who use the, effective Qigong technique.

It relaxes and warms all of the muscles, organs, joints and fascia of the body and even the multitudes of  cells of your body. Whole-body shaking is an excellent way to exercise and detoxify every cell of the body. Besides being an effective warm-up, Shaking the Body can make bone marrow strong, strengthen the spine, and support the kidneys and adrenal glands. In fact, every organ and tube in the body is enhanced by Shaking the Body. Lymph flow is enhanced so that more gunk is cleared out and your immune function improved. Blood flow increases and hormonal secretions will benefit your skin. Bouncing up and down like this also adjusts the magnetic field, organizing and balancing it. Shaking can strengthen cells through the quick, extra force each shake places on the cells. It adds a sudden dollop of extra-gravitational force, creating a need for all of the cells to buck up. It can help sagging tissues regain or hold their tonicity.”At the American Institute for Cancer Research annual conference, Canadian researchers reported that sedentary behavior was associated with about 100,000 cases of breast and colon cancer annually. Theory: Being sedentary promotes inflammation, a cancer risk factor. If you sit a lot, be sure to get up and move around for a minute or two every hour.”

Bradford Keeney, recovering scholar and psychotherapist teaches that shaking IS health! He calls it Shaking Medicine.

The Twisted Fairy says, “Twist!”

Twisting hasn’t quite made it into modern health wisdom, but when we twist we

  • create space for my body
  • rebalance right and left
  • reincorporate the playful swing of things (It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing!)
  • relax the thrusty focus and energy
  • restore the sense of having a 3D body!

Put it together! Call it singing and dancing!

(I couldn’t find youtubes of bodies meditatively twisting from side to side. Can you? Make or send me one and I’ll create a virtual friday interplay in honor of a theme or person your choice!)

Thanks for playing! Raise a hand to movers and shakers everywhere! Start a revolution with heart! Find magic again in moving, breathing, singing, and sharing. InterPlay.org

Deer Do Walk Stop Run

March 3, 2012

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh…..

Feeling serious? Take a cue from the Deer!

A Minnesota InterPlayer filmed deer in her backyard playing “walk stop run.”
To really enjoy this view it on a full screen!

Oh Deer!

The wisdom of the body is to create and serve, play (do something purposeless for fun) and rest each day! Deer are great teachers as friends in Japan know!

Shake out the I have to, I should, I must, I need, and I want’s.
Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh.
Take five minutes today to sing, dance, walk, prowl, gaze for no reason.
Play is the thing all beings need to love and be loved.

The spirit of deer is gentle and unconditional.
The following chant, improvised by Trish Watts from Australia at an International InterPlay Gathering touches on that spirit.
Harriet Platts from Seattle kept it in her heart and shares it here.

Thanks for playing. It makes a difference.

Fired Up/Cooled Down: Meditation on incrementality

January 19, 2012

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh!

Todays Body Wisdom TTT: Things Take Time: Incrementality

When you take a walk today, notice.

  • I move one step at a time.
  • I enjoy each step.
  • I celebrate small moments.
  • I claim new places.
  • I acknowledge those who support my progress.

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh

In pain or stress, incrementality may be difficult. Survival is demanding.

It is OK to take leaps of imagination with heart, prayer and vision, to be carried, to take no steps, to rise out of your body, to hover, to rest in “other worlds.” All is body wisdom for the art of living.

Take a moment to dance on behalf of the joy and love of friends in InterPlay who are moving through health challenges: Ann and Rae in Sydney, Randall in Memphis. Others? Place their names in the comments.

Do you need to be danced on behalf of today? Anytime someone opens and plays “Amy’s Song” a prayer of love will be danced for you.

Take another deep breath and let it out with a sigh.

I raise my hand to you from Sydney!

O, chair dancer! Shake it out!

January 14, 2012

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh….

Shake out one hand and Shake out the other.

Now, Shake Out Whatever You Are Sitting On!

This is one of the InterPlay slogans.  It means that our bodies hold on “tight” to things. Fortunately, we can shake it out! Even “people of the chairs” can let energy move and let spirit flow. We can amuse and be amused. Ellen DeGeneres agrees. She invited Aunt Carol to come on her show after this youtube went viral. Aunt Carol is an InterPlayer “in her heart.” I’m sure.

Are you an InterPlayers with youtube savvy? Join an InterPlay campaign and create a chair dance of your own! Hey, if they get watched these would count as connections!  I’ll try to post some 30 second chair dances while in Australia. That’s where I am headed today!

Here’s some music. Do you own improvisational chair dance now. Remember, you can shake out whatever you are sitting on!

Oooooooooooo….Saying a little prayer for you!
