How to get a jump on life

June 24, 2011

Take a breath. Let it out with a sigh.
Shake out one hand. Shake out the other.
Shake out whatever you’re sitting on.

Life got you jumpy? Your day a little bumpy? Transform bumps with bounce!

Leah and Ela (Lelavision) and scientists show that we are not the best or most natural jumpers.

Even so we bounce, spring and dance because we like that bouncy feeling. Get your bounce back! Bounce a leg, bounce a foot, bounce a shoulder, bounce your whole being to this bouncey feeling song from Finland.

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh. Bounce some good energy in all directions, wherever people are playing, creating, resting or need to.

Nonsense Loves You

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh……

Play is necessary—and yet—many of are under devious spells that say it isn’t do!

The Master once referred to the Hindu notion that all creation is “leela” — God’s play — and the universe is the playground. The aim of spirituality, he claimed, is to make all life play. This seemed too frivolous for a puritanical visitor. “Is their no room then for work?” “Of course there is. But work becomes spiritual only when it is transformed into play.       (Anthony de Mello, One Minute Nonsense)

Got a minute? Try a 1 minute play break taken from InterPlay and the The Life Practice Program at home practices: Really play again with 8 tools to unlock body wisdom.

Can a tiny shift make a difference? Open space? Unlock a new thong?  thing? Some people say YES!

For a one minute Dance of Life  Close your eyes. Feel your inner dancer. Is s/he moving smooth or jerky? Fast or slow? Let the dance fill and move you. Maybe Soyinka’s flute will help.

For a one minute 3 Mark Masterpiece  On a blank piece of paper, make 3 marks.  Gazing at your masterpiece, turn the paper a quarter turn 3 times.  Then decide the direction you like and write a 3 sentence poem or story about it.  Let words slide out. It’s just play.

a one minute Fake Opera  Sing your address or phone number in a opera-like voice.  With another person it might become a duet. Sing a ten second opera about the weather, the news, or your to-do list.

Hum/I Dunno/Write the truth  Some of us know better than to be certain of “knowing” anything.  Just hum a little, write or say the words “I don’t know,” and then tell a truth.

Attune to a Joyful Mover Feel the movements of a child, animal, tree or whomever. As you exercise kinesthetic identification with others notice if your own play muscles grow stronger.
