Take a deep breath, let it out with a…

April 29, 2011

One of InterPlay’s simplest body wisdom practices is to take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh. Holding your breath isn’t too helpful. Maybe that’s why earth invented laughter!

Do you need to take a deep breath and let it out with a  SIGH? ARRRRG? Wheeeee? Waaaaa! Wooooohooo. What is spirit voicing today? Go ahead, Exform! Let breath and sound move.

Breathe all the way in until you are full. LET IT GO. This is key bodyspirit work. Some ancient languages like Hebrew imply breath and spirit are synonymous. Every breath is a movement of take and give.

For the second time this week LAVA’s voices of peace invoke “world air, world mothering air” for all us.  Find a place in your body that needs or contains peace. Bring a hand to this place to rest or dance or send peace while LAVA sings.

May you “live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you need help breathing—check out a summer InterPlay experience–the leaders gathering, a camp, or an InterPlay Way for Helping Professionals Retreat on our website at http://www.interplay.org

Gravity rules, and so does rising up!

April 22, 2011

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh…….

One thing we cannot do as bodies…escape gravity.

Gravitas is good. Grounded is good. Sagging? Stalling? Hmmmm.

To really play with gravity, first honor it.

Body Wisdom: In improvisation as performance early InterPlayers learned this rule: We love going down to the floor, but there are few good ways to get up. In fact it feels downright unnatural. The rule? Just get up! Apparently, nature includes ANTI-GRAVITY! Must be an art thing.

Practice:

Step 1: Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh, letting gravity help on the exhale.

Step 2: Go with gravity and release all the way into your seat. Ahhhhhhhh.

Step 3: Rise up. This requires your core, your will, and your heart.

Why rise, you ask? No need unless something is calling you….. dance, sing, share your story, make peace? Anti-gravitas. Wheeee!

Bring your fingers to the focuser in your forehead and send out a whee in every direction to free the heavies. Or……maybe not. Take a load off!  It’s a great way to be kind to yourself and the planet.

Drum the Sea and Make Waves

April 15, 2011

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh.

Some are in over our head, but still kickin. Some are only knee deep. Even so, where ever water, earth, and air connect us we make waves. They with flowers in their hair make waves of love!

What waves shall we make today? Sound waves? Air waves? Rhythmic waves of bubbling peace?

Practice: Rock back and forth in your chair or just bobble your head. Loosening up can make waves. Just ask any one who wants you to hold it together!

You make waves of grace! If you join with others they multiply. Imagine people, young and old, everywhere making waves of love, connection just by waving their hands. Impossible? We are mighty. We reverberate like a sea moving toward shores of change.

You can rest and ride the wave with this beautiful song or raise a hand and enter the wave.

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh. You are one in a million!

and grace my fears relieved…

April 8, 2011

Take a deep breath and let it out with any sound you want to…

We know surgeries, diagnoses, death, birth, loss, gain, peace, depression, war, love.

Native Americans ask, “When was the last time you sang, when was the last time you danced, when was the last time you told your story?”

Though many of us have lost our indigenous body wisdom, we needn’t be cut off from that well of grace. It lives in the dance, song, and spirit of our lives. It’s in one hand (yours or mine), singing one breath, in a small poem or story on our lips.

Singing, they say, is like praying twice. (African proverb.) When there is song and dance and a story that carries you, what kind of praying is that? Big.

Today, any who can, lift our hearts to heaven to dance on behalf of strangers and loved ones unable to dance themselves.

Stand or raise a hand in the air and let this voice carry you….in Amazing Grace. (make sure to listen to the end.)

Raise a hand in all directions to meet those of us who share this connection. You’re one in a million!

April Foolery: Babblicious Babbling Like a Brook

April 1, 2011

Take a deep breath and let it out with a sigh….

Here’s some increasingly famous twin babies having an engaging conversation.  Even seasoned InterPlayers might learn something from this!

OK! Ready to make sense on a whole new level? Practice 10 second babbles in a made up language.

The Exform!

It may be weird, but when frustration builds, babble it out! Get the !@*&$$@  off your chest with plenty of consonants and vowels. Or, try the universal language: Blah, blah, blah with some zappiness. (even better with a witness!) @#%F&*<@+$$#!!@!

Need more flow?  Welcome the babbling brook in la la land!

Get get into this stream, then babble or sing along with la la la la la la la la one breath at a time…

This could go on forever. (25 minutes) Make this brook your background music. Or, since today is April 1, the first friday of the month, dance on behalf of all our foolish ways and righteous needs.

Raise a hand in connection with fools everywhere and dance for all these crazy lives.

Need some extra dancing? Send us your requests. We’ll dance and sing for you at InterPlayce! Better yet, come visit us at InterPlayce. We have a beautiful, reasonable rental condo and lots of hugs here. Email info@interplay.org to make your reservation!
