Sammy Davis Jr. sings it!

Next Gen Art Movers and Shakers Beamin’ It!

Beautiful Roger dancing the Poetry of It!

(Thanks Unitarian Church of Berkeley)

Now I become myself. It’s taken
Time, many years and places,
I have been dissolved and shaken,
Worn other people’s faces,
Run madly, as if Time were there,
Terribly old, crying a warning,
“hurry, you will be dead before —–”
(What? Before you reach the morning?
or the end of the poem, is clear?
Or love safe in the walled city?)
Now to stand still, to be here,
Feel my own weight and density!…..
Now there is time and Time is young.
O, in this single hour I live
All of myself and do not move
I, the pursued, who madly ran,
Stand still, stand still, and stop the Sun!

-May Sarton

Now you. Raise the energy of you, here, now. Your exact body. This exact moment. That hand, your whole body—dancing, connecting, releasing connection-jerky or slow, smooth or fast. No need to try. That hand is you. Perfect. Even doing nothing is enough.

I started crying with Sammy Davis, and by the time I got to Beautiful Roger and May Sarton, I wanted to sob. I really think that this fear of judgment from others that is at the heart of especially the Sammy Davis is internal. Others are not really judging us nearly as much as we are afraid they are! But what hurt the whole thing brings up!
